Season at a Glance

Join Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra as we celebrate Maestro Edward Polochick’s 25th season as Music Director! The season opens with Mahler’s “Resurrection” Symphony with Esther Heidemann, Susan Platts, and the combined choirs of Abendmusik, Nebraska Wesleyan University, and Concordia University-Nebraska. Other symphonic masterworks include Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition; Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with pianist Mark Clinton; Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with concertmaster Anton Miller; and music by Bach, Handel, Beethoven and Sibelius.

In addition to introducing our new Composer-In-Residence, Elena Ruehr, with her piece Unquiet Earth, LSO will present several regional premieres this season, including James E. Lee III’s Corageous Lights for English horn, commissioned and performed by LSO’s Darci Gamerl; Double concerto for Clarinet & Violin performed the composers, Kinan Azmeh and Layale Chaker; Groovebox Fantasy by Kenji Bunch; and Damian Montano’s Concerto for Piccolo and Contrabassoon, performed by LSO’s Rebecca van de Bogart and Joyce Besch.

Other highlights include 15-time GRAMMY award winner Béla Fleck performing his own Juno Concerto and a brand-new arrangement of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue for banjo and orchestra; a pops concert of Star Wars music, LSO’s annual Deck the Halls conducted by Lucas Waldin, and two family concerts full of educational and musical fun. And, for the first time in 30 years, LSO offers a new chamber orchestra performance in the Johnny Carson Theater with Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony.

Subscriptions will be available June 1 starting at just $80. Single tickets will be available August 1 with prices of $20/$40 for adults and $5 for youth.
