Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra Presents
“Beethoven’s Heroic Beginnings”
(LINCOLN, Neb. – Oct. 2, 2019) Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra returns to the Lied Center for Performing Arts for their Classical series performance, Beethoven’s Heroic Beginnings on Friday, October 11, at 7:30 p.m.
Music Director Edward Polochick will lead the LSO in a pairing of two Beethoven symphonies—the first and third. This program is the fourth installment of LSO’s five-year Beethoven cycle, leading up to Beethoven’s 250th birthday in 2020.
“In terms of orchestra-building, to be able to have an opus like all of Beethoven’s symphonies under our belts is a remarkable feat,” says Music Director Edward Polochick. “I’m also thrilled for our Lincoln community to have the opportunity to hear such masterpieces live. We’re excited to share a window into the life of Beethoven with our audience.”
The evening will begin with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1.
“The First Symphony has connections to the Classical era, like the style of Mozart and Haydn, which Beethoven studied; but right from the downbeat, Beethoven makes this work his own. This work shows evidence of the development of the symphony as an art form,” continues Polochick. “There’s a wonderful lightness and freshness to this symphony. It’s truly a delightful work.”
After intermission, the orchestra will play Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, Eroica.
“The Eroica is a milestone in Beethoven’s compositional life, and indeed, in music history,” says Polochick. “It introduced new challenges to performers, but the musical rewards are generous. The third symphony, along with the first, provides a fantastic glimpse into the early musical life of Beethoven; our audience is in for a real treat with these masterpieces.”
