LSO closes its 100^th season in the historic First-Plymouth Church, featuring the Lied Organ. After opening with Beethoven’s Consecration of the House Overture, LSO introduces our 2026-2029 Composer-in-Residence Natalie Dietterich with the premiere of her works Cygnus and chainlink fences, featuring the Abendmusik Schola Cantorum. After intermission, LSO is joined by organist Tom Trenney performing Camille Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony.

Tom Trenney, Organ

Composer, conductor, organist, preacher, and teacher Tom Trenney has been blessed to serve as Minister of Music to First-Plymouth Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, since 2009. In 2019, he was invited to become Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choirs at Nebraska Wesleyan University where he now holds the Susan Sehnert Stuart Professorship in Choral Music. Tom’s choirs have been honored to perform for state, regional, and national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), and they have been award winners in the American Prize for choral ensembles. In 2023, Tom was honored with the Raabe Prize for Choral Composition from the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, and in 2024, Tom was named the Nebraska Music Education Association’s Music Educator of the Year.

Tom has been a featured performer at churches, colleges, and concert halls across the country including Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center, Seattle’s Benaroya Hall, Kansas City’s Kauffman Center, D.C.’s Kennedy Center, and NYC’s Carnegie Hall. His choral compositions are published by Augsburg Fortress, Beckenhorst Press, Choristers Guild, E.C. Schirmer/Galaxy, Gentry, Morningstar, Musicspoke, Pavane, and G. Schirmer.

A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Eastman School of Music, Tom is grateful for the inspiration of his teachers and mentors – especially Anton Armstrong, David Davidson, Craig Hella Johnson, (Mister) Fred Rogers, William Weinert, Anne Wilson and Todd Wilson.

HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR THE CONCERT?

Get connected by joining LSO’s eNewsletter list and by following us on Facebook, Linkedin, and Instagram. On our website, read program notes and listen to our Spotify playlist for upcoming concerts. For a more in-depth conversation about each classical concert, watch LSO’s Pre-Concert Chats with Maestro Polochick and special guests, hosted by Nebraska Public Media. The chat for each classical concert is available to view online on our YouTube beginning the Monday prior to the concert and is also screened in the Steinhart Room 45 minutes before the concert begins.

WHERE CAN I PARK?

For Lied Center concerts we offer valet parking, and parking is also available at several downtown garages, including Que Place (11th & Q), Larson Garage (13th & Q), Market Place (10th & Q), and Haymarket Garage (9th & Q). Pre-pay for your event parking at parkandgo.org. Street parking is available for our family concerts, located at O’Donnell Auditorium at 50th & Huntington on the Nebraska Wesleyan University campus.

WHAT OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR FAMILIES?

Our family concerts are a perfect way to introduce children to classical music during an hour-long presentation that includes actors or puppets. We also welcome children at all Lied Center concerts, and we provide special children’s program magazines which include educational activities, a coloring page, and a coupon for a free treat at intermission. If your child is becoming noisy during Lied Center events, ask any usher to be directed to the glassed-in room at the back of the main floor, where you can see and hear the performance without disturbing your neighbors.
