John Bailey, Flute

John Bailey John Bailey is Richard H. Larson Professor of Flute at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and since 1986 has been principal flutist with Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra, with whom he has appeared as concerto soloist on numerous occasions (in works of Mozart, Nielsen, Bach and Martinu). He studied with James Pellerite at Indiana University and received both his masters and doctoral degrees with Walfrid Kujala at Northwestern University.

Bailey has performed as recitalist at universities and cities in the U.S. and abroad, including Prague, Potsdam, Leipzig, Dresden, Munich, London, Manchester, Milan, and Chicago (Dame Myra Hess series).  As conductor of the International Flute Orchestra (35 professional flutists and teachers) he has given concerts in Chile, Greece, China, Spain, Russia, the Baltic Republics, Hungary, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Germany.  From 1982 to 1996 he was program annotator for the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria, where he was co-principal flute with the AIMS Festival Orchestra. He was Program Chair for the 2002 National Flute Association's annual national convention in Washington, D.C., and served as President of the NFA in 2003-04
